Keeping the grasses managed around your house and driveway can significantly impact fire behavior in a wildland event. It is common for flame lengths to reach double the height of the fuel it’s burning or even more in some circumstances. Grassy areas managed to 6 inches may produce a 1 foot flame length. That same area with unmanaged grasses may produce a 3 foot flame length which is much harder for firefighters to control.

Many homeowners weed whack once a year, usually in June or July. Often these homeowners use our services annually to trim up to 100 feet away from their house, and District Home Owners Associations have contracted us to keep the grasses low along the major roads in their subdivision, lowering the fire danger along evacuation routes and making the community a safer place.

REMINDER FOR THE HOMEOWNER

The crew serves as the emergency response team responding to emergencies in the Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District, and also to neighboring fire districts. These may include wildland fires, medical emergencies, structure fires, vehicle accidents, and search and rescue operations. So if the crew working on your land disappears rapidly during the day, please be patient as they will return to the job site as soon as possible. We are grateful for your support which allows us to maintain this crew on duty during the work day when most of the BMFPD volunteer responders are at work.
